A role for everyone - Building a Community of Passionate Educators

AM•EI is a place for everyone with a role and strong interest in education. It is open to doctors, nurses, allied health and oral health professionals, healthcare administrators as well as aspiring educators (e.g. trainees and Residents).

Our aim is to bring together a community of interprofessional educators who are committed to faculty development and keen to impart their knowledge and skills to the next generation of educators.

Becoming a member of AM•EI comes with professional and personal rewards. These include:

ü Registration priority for faculty development programmes and activities

ü Be part of a community of educators to strengthen teaching excellence and curriculum innovation

ü Interprofessional learning leading to opportunities for collaboration and scholarship

ü Access to peer reviews and personal mentoring for teaching and educational research

ü Development of your education portfolio that may aid in academic advancement

ü Eligibility to apply for the Education Innovation and Education Research grants

There are currently three types of membership:

a) Associate

Open to individuals who are currently undergoing training (e.g. medical students, Residents, nursing students, allied health trainees, oral health students) with a keen interest in healthcare education, and would like to be developed as educators. As part of our interprofessional community, Associate Educators will have privilege to:

ü Receive the latest education development news

ü Participate in AM•EI’s faculty development programmes and events

ü Submit entries for the annual AM•EI Golden Apple Awards

b) Full

For staff in SingHealth or Duke-NUS involved or interested in healthcare education.

As part of our interprofessional community, our Educators will have privilege to:

ü Receive the latest education development news

ü Participate in AM•EI’s faculty development programmes, events and workgroups

ü Submit entries for the annual AM•EI Golden Apple Awards

ü Apply for the annual AM•EI Education Grant

ü Have personalised consultancy sessions with AM•EI to review individual educator’s curriculum and education related research

Receive an annual summary of their AM•EI educational activities and achievements in support of their annual performance review and/or development of education portfolio.

c) Fellow

Open to healthcare educators who have significant responsibilities (30% FTE or more) and achievements towards educational excellence through:

·  completing the AM•EI Fellows Programme and are accorded Full Time Equivalent FTE) status with AM•EI1

·  meeting the criteria2 for self-directed learning that is equivalent to the level of the AM•EI Fellows Programme

As part of our interprofessional community, our Advanced Educators will have the privilege to:

ü Receive latest education development news

ü Participate in AM•EI’s faculty development programmes, events as trainers / speakers

ü Submit entries to the annual AM•EI Golden Apple Awards

ü Join as key members in any of the AM•EI workgroup/s

ü Provide mentorship to young and aspiring educators within their departments and/or organisation

ü Apply for the annual AM•EI Education Grant

ü Receive an annual summary of their AM•EI educational activities and achievements in support of their annual performance review and/or development of education portfolio

1 Fellow Members accorded FTE status with AM•EI will also receive an appointment letter from AM•EI, and will be expected to teach programmes offered by the Institute.

2 This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
