  1. Cornea and External Eye Disease

The SNEC Corneal Service provides medical diagnoses and treatment on the whole spectrum of disorders including various forms of keratitis (corneal infection or inflammation), corneal trauma and specific cornea and anterior segment disorders such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, pterygium etc.



  1. Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology

Cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation is the most common operation performed in Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). More than 10,000 cataract procedures are performed in SNEC each year, by a team of 52 full time ophthalmology specialists. 


  1. Vitreo-Retinal

The Surgical VR team treats common conditions such as retinal tears and detachments, advanced diabetic eye disease, vitreous haemorrhage, giant retinal tears, macular holes, macular puckers, vitreomacular traction, myopic foveoschisis, trauma, proliferative vitreoretinopathy.


  1. Glaucoma

As the local and regional referral centre for secondary and tertiary management of glaucoma, the SNEC Glaucoma Service manages over 40,000   glaucoma attendances annually - including over 2,000 attendances from the region. Our glaucoma consultants manage both paediatric and adult glaucomas with more than 600 glaucoma surgeries performed every year.

Our Glaucoma Service manages the following glaucoma conditions:


    • Paediatric Glaucoma
    • Primary Open Angle Glaucomas including Normal Tension Glaucoma
    • Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma
    • Secondary Glaucomas


  1. Paediatrics Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus

The Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Service deals with eye-related ailments and conditions that affect children whether congenital or developmental. The service also treats adult strabismus (squints).


  1. Refractive Surgery/LASIK

Led by a team of 14 experienced refractive surgeons and supported by nine trained refractive surgery nurses, three technicians and five administrative staff, our centre offers a comprehensive suite of services including:



•LASIK Xtra™

•Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) - LASEK

•Implantable Contact Lens (ICL)

•ReLEx® Smile


  1. Oculoplastic & Aesthetic Eyeplastic

The Oculoplastic Service was set up in 1990 to meet the medical needs of patients both in Singapore and from around the region. Our team of specialists received training either in the United Kingdom, Australia or North America. Together we perform over 700 oculoplastic procedures annually.

The Oculoplastic Service is a tertiary service that deals with a wide range of conditions including droopy lids, entropion and ectropion, blocked nasolacrimal ducts that cause tearing disorders, orbital fractures and tumours, and thyroid eye disease. Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care for all patients with these conditions. Our procedures are subject to annual audit and critical peer review.


  1. Ocular Inflammation & Immunology


SNEC deals with a wide range of ocular inflammatory conditions – some of which result in significant ocular morbidity and are estimated to account for 5 to 15% of blindness. Common ocular inflammations seen at our service include:

•HLA-B27 related anterior uveitis

•Fuch's heterochromic iridocyclitis

•Posner schlossman syndrome

•Intermediate uveitis

•Behcet's disease

•Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome

•Ocular infections such as acute and chronic endophthalmitis

•Toxoplasmosis chorioretinitis

•Tuberculosis uveitis

•Ocular malignancies such as ocular lymphoma


  1. Neuro-Ophthalmology

The Neuro-ophthalmologic service treats 3,000 patients a year with neuro-ophthalmic conditions. These conditions range from visual loss and double vision problems to eyelid droops and spasms.

Conditions seen include:

·         Visual loss due to optic neuropathies

·         Double vision or diplopia

·         Transient visual loss

·         Visual loss resulting from stroke or other brain disorders

·         Unexplained visual loss

·         Asthenopia or eye strain

·         Pupillary abnormalities

·         Droopy eyelids (ptosis)

·         Facial nerve palsies
