Senior Faculty Academic Study Fellowship

The Senior Faculty Academic Study Fellowship is a faculty academic advancement scheme under AM-ETHOS that recognises senior faculty leaders who have contributed extensively and played significant roles in the advancement of the Academic Medicine journey of SingHealth Duke-NUS. It supports the development of leaders and new strategic priorities in Academic Medicine.

The Fellowship provides support for distinguished SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Clinician Faculty Leaders to become Senior Fellows furthering their capabilities and strategic competencies to improve standards and outcomes at Duke-NUS and SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC); and pursue interests in new emerging areas such as Global Medicine, Public Health and Community Health. The Fellowship also gives Senior Fellows the opportunity to enhance their academic exposure further by visiting Duke Health, Durham, USA, or other renowned Academic Institutions and AMC.

Eligibility

Senior Academic Clinician Faculty Leaders who have held at least one term of leadership or headship appointment in his/her Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) or in SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC are eligible to apply. These include ACP Academic Chair, ACP Academic Vice Chairs, Clerkship Leaders or any other outstanding Academic Clinician Faculty Leaders.

Applying Senior Academic Clinician Faculty Leaders must demonstrate outstanding Academic Medicine leadership qualities by exceling and contributing greatly to the leadership role in SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC. The eligible Senior Academic Clinician Faculty Leader’s application must be supported by Senior Academic Medicine Leaders within SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC.

 

Outcomes & Objectives

The objectives of the AM-ETHOS Senior Faculty Academic Study Fellowship are to:

  1. Recognise and reward Senior Academic Clinician Faculty Leaders who, in the course of their career, have contributed extensively and played significant roles in advancing SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC and medical education at Duke-NUS;
  2. Support Senior Academic Clinician Faculty Leaders in their academic development to pursue emerging fields of interest related to advancement of academic medicine, improvement of medical education and academic outcomes, which are not being supported by existing training schemes in Duke-NUS and SingHealth currently; and 
  3. Enhance worldwide academic exposure of the Senior Academic Clinician Faculty by leveraging the best practices and academic culture sharing of Duke Health, Durham, USA and other renowned Academic Institutions and AMCs.

Upon completion of the AM-ETHOS Senior Faculty Academic Study Fellowship, the Senior Fellow is expected to submit a Fellowship Completion Report that describes findings from the activities undertaken within the Fellowship, the impact of the area of academic study on the Senior Fellow’s further contribution and leadership, and recommendations for implementing the findings to benefit advance SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC and improve standards and outcomes of medical education at Duke-NUS.

 

Funding Support

The Fellowship provides funding support for the Senior Fellow to pursue academic development for a duration of up to three months. The funding support is not restricted to but can be used for travel expenses, training fees, training allowances and miscellaneous administrative fees.

 

Application & Review Process

Applications will consist of the following:

  1. Completed Application Form for AM-ETHOS Senior Faculty Academic Study Fellowship
  2. Updated CV enclosure
  3. Written recommendation from Senior Academic Medicine Leader in SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC

 

July to August 2016
The Joint Office of Academic Medicine (Duke-NUS) will consolidate and route all applications to a Review Panel for review.

September 2016
Selected applications will then be tabled for award approval by the Academic Council and updated to the Academic Medicine Executive Committee (AM EXCO).

October 2016
Successful Senior Fellows will be given a Letter of Award to notify them of their enrolment into the AM-ETHOS Academic Mentor Development Fellowship.
