Prof Krishnamurthy was a professor of Civil Engineering in three American and two Indian universities with 57 years of teaching, research and consultancy experience. He currently teaches at the University of Newcastle (Australia) in its Singapore campus and conducts short courses for Institution of Engineers, BCA and other organisations. He has written five books, over a hundred papers, and has two inventions to his credit.

During the first forty years of his career, Prof Krishnamurthy dealt mainly with structures and was briefly involved in bio-mechanics and accident investigations. For the last 16 years, he has focused on workplace safety and risk management. He has also conducted research on working safely at height from 2012-2016, a study sponsored by the Workplace Safety and Health Institute.
